Baby Gift Basket Ideas, Perfect Gifts for a New Baby

Are you looking for the perfect gift for the new baby of a friend or family member? Gift baskets for babies are adorable and thoughtful gifts, allowing you to give a more personal gift to the mom for her new baby.

There are many ideas for themed gift baskets for the baby. Ideas can range from the simple and frugal gift basket to a sophisticated and expensive gift basket. How little or how much you choose to include is one of the joys of making and giving gift baskets as a gift. There are also many commercially prepared gift baskets, already stuffed with delightful goodies for the new baby.

To make your own gift basket for a baby, you first want to decide on a basket or container to hold the gifts. The container can be something other than an actual basket. Containers could be a small wicker cradle, a metal tub, a baby bathtub, and even a diaper pail bucket.

Now comes the fun part. There are so many things a new mom needs for a baby, so there is a wide range of items you can put into the gift basket. If the baby hasn’t been born yet, you might want to choose neutral colors such as greens and yellows.

Cloth diapers have finally come back around as the choice of diapering for the baby. Many moms prefer cloth diapers to the disposable ones. The regular unfolded cloth diapers can also serve as burping cloths. Prefolded shaped cloth diapers with velcro closings are very popular, and are available in various prints and designs. Fuzzi Bunz, Kissaluvs, Wickeez and Bumkins are just four companies that put out these types of prefolded cloth diapers.

Items for the nursery make thoughtful items for the gift basket. Some ideas are changing pads for the nursery changing table, crib blankets and baby quilts, a diaper stacker that hangs on the crib, and baby mobiles.

Other items to consider are baby spoons, bottles and bottle liners, bibs and teething rings, baby wash and baby bath, baby oil and lotion, diaper rash ointments, petroleum jelly, rattlers, pacifiers, receiving blankets, baby wash clothes, hooded towels for baby, brush set, a baby memory book, one piece outfits, socks, sleepers, piggy banks, soft toys, board books, diaper bags, baby wipes, a baby bath tub, bath toys, etc.

Once you have all of the items that you want to include in the gift basket for the baby, place them in the container. If the container is a basket or like a basket, you will want to put some type of shredding in the bottom of it. You can leave the shredding out and use cloth diapers placed in the bottom instead, or a receiving blanket. Sticky glue dots applied to the items help to hold the gifts in place to make the gift basket look nice and maintain that look. Glue dots can be found in the craft section of Wal-Mart.

You will want to wrap the basket in some transparent plastic wrap. Gift basket wrap can be found in the craft section of Wal-Mart. Or you can use transparent gift wrap paper found in the greeting card section of Wal-Mart. Wrap the basket in the plastic, bringing the open ends to the top of the basket. Hold the wrapping closed by tying it with ribbon or a metallic twist tie. You can also add a large bow to the container to add a creative touch to it.

There are many ideas for gift baskets for a baby. Adding your own touch to a gift basket and giving it as a gift is what makes gift baskets so unique and thoughtful.

The Importance of Good Prenatal Care for Pregnant Women

Pregnant women absolutely need good prenatal care. Good prenatal care is essential to ensure not only the health of the mom, but the health and well being of the baby as well.  Women who refuse prenatal care are much more likely to have low birth weight babies, premature babies, and babies that don’t survive.

All women who are expecting a baby want to have a safe and problem free pregnancy.  And a lot of women will go through a pregnancy just fine and have little if any complications. But the fact is that complications do arise and when they do, without routine prenatal care, the outcome might not be so good.

When a woman suspects that she is pregnant, she should have a pregnancy test done to determine if she is indeed pregnant.  As soon as it is determined that a baby is on the way, prenatal care should begin.  There simply is no substitute for good prenatal care!

It’s important to know that no matter how many children a woman has already had, there is no way to ensure or know that the next pregnancy and birth will be the same or go okay.  One pregnancy could be perfectly risk free and without any problems while the next pregnancy might find the mom with gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, high blood pressure, abnormal bleeding, or a host of other complications in pregnancy.

Ultrasounds and fetal monitoring also help to ensure that the baby is doing just fine.  Any fetal abnormalities or placenta problems need to be caught right away.   Without regular prenatal care, some problems will go unchecked, endangering both the mom and the baby.

Prenatal care can come from not only an obstetrician, but from a general practitioner or a midwife.  If using a midwife, there should always be an obstetrician as a backup in case of emergencies or complications.  Medical issues can arise in a pregnancy or birth at any time and the health and safety of the baby and mom is what’s most important.

Prenatal visits for a low risk mom typically start out at one a month for the first 28 weeks, then twice a month until week 36, and once a week until the birth.  Prenatal visits for a high risk pregnancy can be once a week for the first 28 weeks, and even as much as twice a week until the birth of the baby.

To ensure that a healthy baby, it’s vital that a pregnant woman get good routine prenatal care. Keep appointments and don’t miss them.  Discuss with your doctor any concerns that you have.  Giving your baby a healthy start in life is one of the best gifts you can give as a mom.
